Bangkok after dental implants: a day-by-day guide

Recovering from dental implants in Bangkok's heat: the air-conditioned, seated and soft-food options for each day, and the temples and food nights to save for later.

Rules last checked against the cited guidance on 2 November 2026.

Make a dated calendar for your trip

At a glance

How long to stay
5 to 10 days for implant placement or All-on-4; a second trip months later for the final teeth is common
What the rules are about
The first 72 hours bring swelling and some bruising. The rules are about soft, cool food, no smoking or straws, no strenuous exercise and keeping heat away from the wound.
Weather
Hot all year: 30 to 35°C, very humid, with a rainy season from about May to October.
Getting around
The BTS Skytrain and MRT are air-conditioned and easy. River express boats and ride apps fill the gaps. Avoid long walks in midday heat.

Confirm with your surgeon. These are general activity limits from published aftercare guidance. Your clinic's written instructions always come first, and they may be stricter or looser for your procedure.

Recovery timeline

  1. Day 1

Rest until the anaesthetic wears off. Cool, soft food and lukewarm drinks only. Swelling starts.

  2. Days 2 to 3

Swelling and bruising usually peak within 72 hours. Short, easy outings. Soft food, chew on the other side, no hot drinks or very hot dishes.

  3. Days 4 to 7

Swelling goes down. Normal low-effort sightseeing. Food stays soft and non-spicy until your dentist widens your diet. Stitches usually come out at 7 to 10 days.

  4. Before you fly

There is no universal rule on flying. Sinus lifts and bone grafts change the timing, so the flight date comes from your surgeon.

For your companion

Your companion has the same idle days without the restrictions. These are the things the patient has to skip on most days of this guide, which makes them perfect solo outings.

  • Chinatown street food night

Yaowarat Road after dark: grills, noodles, seafood and crowds.

A few hours on foot with breaks, shaded or covered, about 3 hours

  • Chao Phraya dinner cruise

A two-hour buffet cruise past the lit-up temples. Free beer is included on some boats; soft drinks are too.

    Seated, indoors, about 2 hours

  • Rooftop bar

Cocktails with the skyline from the 60th floor.

    Seated, indoors, about 2 hours

  • Thai cooking class

Market visit and cooking indoors. You choose the chilli level.

Gentle walking, indoors, about 4 hours

  • Damnoen Saduak floating market

An early start, a long drive and a crowded boat ride through the market.

Gentle walking, mostly in full sun, about 7 hours

Bangkok tips for recovering patients

  • Heat and humidity make swelling feel worse. Plan outdoor sights before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m.
  • Thai food can be ordered mild: say "mai phet" (not spicy).
  • Temples ask for covered shoulders and knees.

Questions

Can I visit the Grand Palace after dental implants?

It is better later in the trip. It means hours in full sun and crowds, which is hard work while swelling is up. A river boat or Wat Pho early in the morning is a gentler start.

What Thai food is safe after dental implants?

Jok rice porridge, mild noodle soup, mango sticky rice and coconut ice cream. Ask for "mai phet" (not spicy) and skip som tam, tom yum and grilled skewers in the first week.
