Recovery travel guide

Breast augmentation recovery, day by day

Expect soreness and swelling for two to three weeks. The rules are about not lifting or reaching overhead, wearing the support bra, no baths or hot tubs, sleeping inclined on your back and staying near the clinic until your wound check.

Rules last checked against the cited guidance on 2 November 2026.

When the limits lift

Within the 10 days this guide covers, according to the cited guidance:

  • Lifting and reaching overhead: still off-limits on day 10. Ask your surgeon when it is safe.
  • Walking and exercise: with care from day 1.
  • Support bra: with care from day 1.
  • Baths, hot tubs and pools: still off-limits on day 10. Ask your surgeon when it is safe.
  • Sleeping position: with care from day 1.
  • Flying home: with care from day 7.

Confirm with your surgeon. These are general activity limits from published aftercare guidance. Your clinic's written instructions always come first, and they may be stricter or looser for your procedure.

What the rules are about
Expect soreness and swelling for two to three weeks. The rules are about not lifting or reaching overhead, wearing the support bra, no baths or hot tubs, sleeping inclined on your back and staying near the clinic until your wound check.

Recovery timeline

  1. Days 1 to 3

The chest feels stiff and sore for two to five days. Rest, take short walks, sleep inclined on your back and keep the support bra on.

  2. Days 4 to 7

Pain usually eases within a few days. Gentle sightseeing is fine, but nothing lifted above your head and no straining.

  3. Days 8 to 10

The first wound check. Stitches come out after one to two weeks unless they dissolve. Ask about flying.

  4. Weeks 2 to 6

No heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for at least a month. Most people are back to normal activities around six weeks.
