Kraków after dental implants: a day-by-day guide
Implants in Kraków usually mean a few days between appointments in one of Europe's easiest cities to explore slowly. Here is what fits each day, what to eat when chewing is hard, and why the salt mine should wait.
Make a dated calendar for your trip
At a glance
- How long to stay
- 5 to 10 days for implant placement or All-on-4; a second trip months later for the final teeth is common
- What the rules are about
- The first 72 hours bring swelling and some bruising. The rules are about soft, cool food, no smoking or straws, no strenuous exercise and keeping heat away from the wound.
- Weather
- Warm summers around 24 to 27°C and cold winters below freezing. Most sights are indoors or in the compact Old Town, so any season works.
- Getting around
- The Old Town is compact and flat, with trams and cheap ride apps for longer hops. Wieliczka is about 30 minutes away by car or train.
Confirm with your surgeon. These are general activity limits from published aftercare guidance. Your clinic's written instructions always come first, and they may be stricter or looser for your procedure.
Recovery timeline
- Day 1
Rest until the anaesthetic wears off. Cool, soft food and lukewarm drinks only. Swelling starts.
- Days 2 to 3
Swelling and bruising usually peak within 72 hours. Short, easy outings. Soft food, chew on the other side, no hot drinks or very hot dishes.
- Days 4 to 7
Swelling goes down. Normal low-effort sightseeing. Food stays soft and non-spicy until your dentist widens your diet. Stitches usually come out at 7 to 10 days.
- Before you fly
There is no universal rule on flying. Sinus lifts and bone grafts change the timing, so the flight date comes from your surgeon.

What to do each day
Rest at the hotel until the numbness has gone. Eat only once it has worn off, and keep food soft and cool. A short evening walk is the most you need today.

Kraków tips for recovering patients
- The Old Town is flat and walkable, but the Wieliczka Salt Mine means about 800 steps. Keep it for late in the trip, or for your companion.
- Auschwitz-Birkenau is a long, emotional day on foot. Plan it for a day when you feel well, not the day after treatment.
- Bakeries and street carts sell hard obwarzanek rings. Skip them after implants and with temporary veneers.

Questions
Can I visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine after dental implants?
Later in the trip. The route has about 800 steps and a lot of walking, which is too much while swelling builds in the first days.
What can I eat in Kraków after implant surgery?
Żurek and barszcz soups, pierogi from a milk bar and soft cakes like sernik. Let soups cool, and skip obwarzanek rings and zapiekanki until your dentist widens your diet.
